Goodlabs Sharing allows you to order or recommend lab tests for someone you’re connected with, such as a family member, patient, client, or other trusted individual.
Before you can order tests for someone else, you must be connected through Sharing and have permission to order tests on their behalf.
Before You Get Started
Make sure the person you want to order for has accepted your Sharing request and that you have Can Order Tests permission.
If your invitation is still awaiting approval, you’ll need to wait until the person accepts the request before ordering or recommending tests for them.
Step 1: Go to Sharing
From your Goodlabs account, navigate to Sharing.
Select People, then choose the person you would like to order or recommend tests for. Note: If your account is set as Health Provider account, Select Clients.
Click Order Tests to begin.
Step 2: Select Tests
After selecting Order Tests, you’ll be redirected to the Shop Tests page.
A banner at the top of the page will indicate that you are currently ordering for the selected person:
“Currently ordering for [Name]”
This helps confirm that the tests you select are being ordered or recommended for the correct person rather than for yourself.
Browse the available tests and add the appropriate test(s) to the order.
Step 3: Choose a Testing Location
Enter the ZIP code for the person being tested to select an available testing location.
If you don’t want to schedule the blood draw yet, select Skip Scheduling for Now, when available.
You can then continue through the ordering process.
Step 4: Choose How You Want to Complete the Order
When completing the order, you may have the option to either:
purchase the tests on their behalf, or
recommend them to the other person.
Pay for Them
Select Pay for Them if you want to purchase the selected test(s) on the other person’s behalf. The order will be associated with the person who will actually be tested.
Recommend Test(s)
Select Recommend Test(s) if you want to send the selected tests to the other person for their consideration instead of purchasing them yourself. They can then review the recommendation and decide how they would like to proceed.
Shared Orders and Payments
The person being tested and the person paying for the order do not always need to be the same person.
For example, one person may place an order for their spouse, while the spouse completes the payment.
When placing an order for someone else, make sure the patient information belongs to the person who will actually be tested.
Payment may be completed by someone other than the patient when the available shared-ordering options allow it.
Who Receives the Lab Results?
Lab results are delivered directly to the Goodlabs account of the person who was tested.
Ordering or paying for another person’s tests does not automatically give you access to their results.
To view another person’s health information and lab results, they must separately grant you View Health Profile permission through Sharing.
This helps ensure that the person being tested remains in control of who can access their health information.
Checking Orders You Placed for Other People
To review orders you’ve placed for someone else, go to Visits & Orders and look for Orders for Other People.
Depending on the order, you may see information such as:
Test name and type
Current order status
The person the order was placed for
Receipt
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I order tests for someone without their permission?
You must have the appropriate Sharing permission before you can place orders on another person’s behalf.
Can I recommend a test without paying for it?
Yes. When available, select Recommend Test(s) instead of Pay for Them. This allows the other person to review the recommended tests before proceeding.
If I pay for someone's test, can I see their results?
Not automatically. Paying for or ordering another person’s test does not grant access to their health information.
They must give you View Health Profile permission if they want you to be able to view their results.
Can someone else pay for the order?
Goodlabs supports shared ordering where the person being tested and the person handling payment may be different.
Always make sure the patient information on the order matches the person who will actually complete the lab test.
Where can I see orders I've placed for other people?
Go to Visits & Orders and look under Orders for Other People.
