Goodlabs allows you to securely share health data and place lab orders on behalf of trusted individuals. This feature is designed for families, caregivers, healthcare providers, and anyone managing healthcare collaboratively.
OVERVIEW
The Sharing feature allows approved connections to:
Give someone access to view your health profile or order tests for you
Request access to view someone else's health data or order tests on their behalf
Do both — mutually share health access with a connection
Connections may include family members, friends, physicians, caregivers, or patients.
All permissions are controlled by the account owner and can be updated or removed at any time.
STEP 1: Go to Your People
Navigate to the Sharing section in the sidebar.
This page displays:
Pending Requests - Invitations awaiting approval from another user.
Existing Connections - People already connected to your account, including their permission status.
Possible permission labels include:
Can View Health
Can Order Tests
Mutual Access
You can open any connection to review or modify access permissions.
STEP 2: Add a New Connection
Click Add New Connection. You'll be asked: What kind of connection is this?
Option | What it means |
Request access | Order tests for someone else, or view the health data they share with you |
Give access | Let someone else order your labs or view your health data |
Both | Request and share health data with each other |
Select the option that best matches your relationship.
STEP 3: Fill Out the Connection Form
You'll land on the Add your connection form. Fill in:
Relationship - e.g., Patient, Friend, Family Member
Your role (optional) - e.g., Physician, Caregiver
Email address - the person's Goodlabs-registered email
Nickname (optional)
Then select what you're requesting:
View Health Profile — access to lab reports, biomarkers, action plans, and saved files
Order tests on their behalf — book appointments and manage lab orders for that person
Click Send Request when ready.
STEP 4: Manage the Pending Requests
After sending a request, it will appear under:
Your People or
Your Patients (for provider relationships)
Until approved, the request will remain in Pending Requests.
Available actions may include:
Cancel request
Add prepaid test — attach a test to the invitation
Edit share details — modify permissions before they accept
Requests remain pending until the other person accepts the invitation from their own Goodlabs account.
STEP 5: Order Tests on Someone Else’s Behalf
Once access has been approved, you can place orders for that person.
Ordering Process
Navigate to Shop Tests
A banner at the top will show: Currently shopping on behalf of [Name]
Select a test, then choose a location by zip code
Proceed through checkout - payment is charged to your account
The order is confirmed and appears in Visits & Orders → Orders for Other People
Privacy note: Lab results are delivered directly to the person the test was ordered for. Viewing their results requires explicit View Health Profile permission.
Checking Order History
Go to Visits & Orders and look under Orders for Other People. Each row shows:
Test name and type
Order status (e.g., Order Received)
Who the order was placed for
A Receipt link
Permission Reference
Permission | What it allows |
Can view health | See lab reports, biomarkers, action plans, and saved files |
Can order tests | Book appointments and place lab orders on your behalf |
Mutual | Both people have shared access with each other |
Shared Orders and Payments
Goodlabs now supports shared ordering, allowing one person to place an order while another person handles the payment.
With this feature, the patient and the payer do not need to be the same person.
Example:
• A husband can place an order for his wife
• The wife can pay for the order herself
Important Notes
• The patient information must match the person being tested
• Payment can now be completed by someone other than the person who placed the order
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I remove a connection?
Open the connection detail from Your People and remove their access from the edit view.
